One of the daily rewards of motherhood is the priceless (free) comedy. Anyone can tell you about the endless sacrifices you make as a parent, and the sweet and tender moments are icing on the cake. But nobody on earth can make me laugh like my kids can. I actually started a book for each of my daughters titled “The Funny Things I Say by [Name]” just to keep track of all of their brilliant little blurbs—and barbs. These sweet, hilarious, wise-beyond-their-years souls remind me every day to find joy in life, to not take everything so damned seriously all the time, to stop and smell the roses and along the way, to have a good laugh doing it. They’ll reply to some instruction I give with “Yeah, mom. We got the memo.” (Where did they get that?) or tell me—first thing in the morning—“Mom, it smells like poo is coming out of your mouth!” Even the silly stuff gets me. For instance, 4YO daughter: “Knock, knock!” Me: “Who’s there?” 4YO: “Squished eyeball!” Hilarity ensues. J
